Songwriters Circle
The Songwriters Circle began as a way to stay connected with people after release. Someone who found something in our classes inside should not lose it the week they come home.
The Circle meets weekly, year-round, led by the same teaching artists who teach inside, so participants arrive already knowing someone in the room. Anyone in reentry or recovery is welcome, whether or not they came through our jail programming. There is no cost to participate.
Participants collaborate on songwriting and record original music. Weekly sessions provide structure, creative work, and a group of people who show up for each other. That is our approach to reentry support: not a referral to a stranger, but a relationship that already exists.
Why People Come back
CONTINUITY. Participants keep working with the same teaching artists they knew inside, so support does not restart at release.
STRUCTURE. A weekly session at a fixed time and place gives people one reliable commitment during the least stable months of reentry.
COMMUNITY. Participants build relationships with each other, not only with staff — a support system that holds after any single program ends.
CREATIVE OUTPUT. Participants write and record original music and release it through OpporTUNEity Records. The work is theirs.

Wednesdays, 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Fridays, 9:00 a.m.-11:30 p.m.
